Cannabis can Cure Cancer by Shrinking Tumor Cells

Introduction

According to a new study that has gone out for publication in a reputed journal, Marijuana can stop the progress of cancer in its tracks by killing cancerous or benign cells. As a result, it could be a future cure for different types of cancers. It can even shrink brain tumor cells as well. These effects are found to happen when used with radiation therapy.

Marijuana Cures Cancer

A group of scientists from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has found the brighter side of using cannabis. Till now people were under the impression that it could lead to cancer on the prolonged use. This Federal government-funded project shows the other way. The researchers used the juices squeezed out from plants for the study. They have shown that the tumors tend to recede if these extracts are used in treatment with radiation therapy. The study was first reported in a newspaper by the name the Mirror.

Discussion

The group studied using animal models to adjudge the effect of marijuana on the cancer cure. These studies have shown that the extracts from the marijuana plant are capable of killing certain cancer cells. When used in tandem with radiation therapy, the extracts are found to reduce the size of others. Encouraged by the finding, they checked whether this extract can be used to cure the brain tumor. They found that the whole-plant marijuana extract can shrink of the most serious types of brain tumors as well. The animal on which these experiments were done was mice. They used radiation and the extract to doubly attack the devastating disease in the body. When used in combination, it is found to have cancer-killing effects on the body. It is more found to enhance the effect of radiation therapy on the body.
